Capturing the medical knowledge of modern warfare
A UK research charity structuring, preserving, and advancing the medical knowledge of modern warfare, anchored by the frontline experience of Ukraine and expanding to allied militaries.
Ukraine
The war in Ukraine has produced an unprecedented body of frontline medical experience, clinical protocols, treatment outcomes, evacuation lessons, sensor data from soldiers. The institute exists to capture that experience before it is lost, and to translate it into the protocols, training, and research that save lives in the next conflict.
Why this institute, and why now
Battlefield medicine has always advanced through experience earned at terrible cost. Every modern conflict has produced clinical lessons that, if captured and shared, would have changed outcomes in the next. Too much of that knowledge is still lost.
What we are working towards
A federated record of modern battlefield experience
The world's most comprehensive, federated dataset of modern battlefield medical experience, anchored by Ukraine and expanding to allied militaries.
Evidence-based protocols and training
Clinical protocols, training materials, and certifications for combat medical care, developed from the evidence base and disseminated to those who need them.
Insight to nations and military medical services
Data-driven insights to nations and military medical organisations to better protect their soldiers, improve treatment in the field, and save more lives.
Senior Ukrainian military medical leader
The institute's Honorary President is a senior Ukrainian military medical leader, serving as the institute's public figurehead and senior advisor. The frontline experience of Ukrainian military medical services is the founding body of knowledge the institute exists to preserve, and that experience shapes the research questions we will address first.
How organisations and individuals engage
The institute offers three categories of engagement. An organisation can belong to one, two, or all three.
Constitutional Members
The legal members of the charity. Constitutional Members appoint trustees and vote on changes to the charity's constitution. Limited in number.
Industry Partners
Commercial relationships contracted through the trading subsidiary. Three tiers, all transparently governed and reviewed by the Conflicts & Related Parties Sub-Committee.
Engaged Communities
Structured engagement for governments, defence medical services, academic institutions, individual military medical professionals, and philanthropic patrons of the institute's mission.
